Friday February 15, 2013

We had a great Valentine's Day party yesterday. Thank you to all families who helped out. Your donations and help made the day great. Today students completed chapter 8 math test on fractions, which you will find in their Friday folder along with extra fraction practice. Please assist your child in correcting their test over break. Students also leaned about Presidents day and why we celebrate our Presidents. When we come back from break we will start an Autobiography unit, please look through pictures and pick out the best 4 that you have.

Have a great break and enjoy your time with your family!

We had a busy and fun filled day. Students celebrated the 100th day of school, played fast math at the computer lab, had their pictures taken, reviewed fractions for their assessment on Friday and continued  to explore the elements of non-fiction. Today we also had the book exchange where each student was able to exchange a book. Thank you Cameron and his family for donating extra books so all classmates could exchange and get a new book!

Tomorrow Valentines boxes are due and we will have our party from 2:00-3:00
Tomorrow students will also participate in Jump Rope for Heart

Friday homework is due, students will have their spelling and math test.  Also the Daddy Daughter Dance is from 6:30-8:30.

Over the last few days students have been learning about equivalent fraction, naming fractions, and creating fractions. They have been measuring using inches and centimeters, and practicing fact addition while being timed.

In Reading they have continued to be introduced and focus each day on the following non-fiction features:captions, index, glossary, diagram, table on contents, and types of print. They are practicing how to read a non-fiction book and how to write a summary.

In writing we are also focusing on non-fiction and writing "how to" papers. Yesterday they worked on "How to Blow a Bubble," today we will focus on "How to Make a Snowman."

In science students are learning about balance and motion
