Wasn't the concert las tnight so adorable?? The kids did a wonderful job :)
Today in class we took our spelling test in the morning and went to school store. I am sure you will all be seeing a lot of sticky hands and bouncy balls this weekend at home!
In math we continued to work with money and review some older concepts such as area and perimeter.
New homework went home today and I collected many field trip slips-- if I don't have yours yet, please send it asap! Thanks.

Concert Update! We will be meeting in room 103 at Parcells before the concert tomorrow.
Also, I have a navy blue Michigan baseball cap in the classroom that no one is claiming. It is a nice hat and I don't want it to get lost forever! Let me know if you think it is yours-- none of the kids think it belongs to them but I know it must belong to someone!

Today in math we working on subtraction different money amounts. One thing that we made sure to focus on a practice a lot was the idea of 6 cents = .06. The students are expected to use dollar and cent notation with decimal points at the stage in the year so we are really working hard to practice that at math and throughout the day.
In writing we are beginning our non-fiction animal reports! We did a report all together on alligators and the kids will do one on their own on any animal they choose. Tomorrow is our library day so they will all be picking out their book then. We will also be using the internet to research for this project---they are already dying to use google (I don't know why they think it is so cool to "google" something but they do!) :)
Ask your child what animal they are planning to report on!
In reading we began homophones today. We used words like Deer and dear to play a few games on the smart board and talk about the different meanings that the 2 words have.
THE SPRING CONCERT IS THURSDAY!!! Please have your child at Parcells by 6:45. There will be signs and teachers there to direct student to the correct room (the room our class will be meeting in will be labeled "Stewart" but we do not know the room number yet so you will have to check the signs when you get there!) Parents will then wait in the auditorium for the show to begin. I think you are going to LOVE the show--the songs and props are too cute! Hope to see all of you there!

Happy Spring Break!!! We had a crazzzzy day packed FULL of projects and fun stuff! We got ALL our Flat Stanley letters written and stuffed and ready for the mail! Thank you to everyone who sent $2 for postage and to Keegan's mom and Christen's mom for donating a little extra as well! You can't believe how big the stack of letters I have is-- I can't wait for them to all start getting returned to us! The kids were practically bouncing off the walls with excitement about this whole project all day today :)
The kids have NO spelling homework over break (yaye!) but they do have some simple math review pages and a super fun Writing Journal Assignment. The writing Journals are in their homework binders with directions being on the first page of the journal. They all also have their own "flat self" to use when writing their journal entries. Please encourage your child to use good handwriting, punctuation, capital letters, ect when writing in their journal. This project is meant to be fun but also to help the kids practice good writing skills. Journals are due on MONDAY after break!! The homework binder (and the math homework inside of it) will still be due on Friday as usual.
ALSO- I FORGOT TO SEND HOME THE SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDER FORM IN THE BINDERS TODAY (sorry!) If you want to order some books for your child, please go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and enter our classroom code. Our code is HT2MW when ordering. Thanks!
Hope you all have a wonderful break!

As you know, the addresses for the FLAT STANELY PROJECT are due tomorrow (look in your homework binder for more info about this)! The students and I finished reading the book and have already made our Stanleys to send to our friends and family! Unfortunately, I found out that our office is not going to be able to pay for the postage for our letters and am now relying on parents to help pay for the cost. The letters will be sent in LARGE envelopes with postage being about $1 for USA addresses and since many student will be sending two Stanleys, I am asking that all parents donate $2 toward this project. Please send the money tomorow (Thursday) if possible! I want to send all the letters out over break so that we will start receiving them back quickly!
Thank you so much for your help and understanding! Sorry for the short notice-- I thought I was going to be able to cover the cost totally but things starting added up quickly once I realized we needed to use the large envelopes (with a higher postage charge!) multiplied by a class full of students each making 2 Stanleys...it does add up!
Homework binders due tomorrow!

Tuesday, April 3rd
Today in math we worked on measuring the weight of different items using a scale using ounces. WE also reviewed what we learned yesterday, which was measuring liquids using liters, cups, pint, quart, and gallons. Tomorrow we will be learning a little story that will help the student remember that there are 4 quarts in a gallon, 2 pints in quart, ect.
In reading we learned the word "suffix"and worked with common suffixes that we all knew: ing and ed. We noticed that most all the words we came up with that ended in 'ing' were actually verbs that described a current action. We also noticed that words that end with 'ed' were describing something that happened in the past.
In writing we actually reviewed some contractions with a fun game and wrote stories with contractions. We took a mini-contractions quiz to see if all the students were ready to move on from this concept or if some students still needed to practice with it. I am still working on graded the quizzes but will have them all ready by tomorrow!
NO SCHOOL THIS FRIDAY! Remember that Homework is due on Thursday (especially that Flat Stanley address sheet, I would REALLY like to send the letters on Friday so that that can be on their way to their destinations while we are off for Spring Break)
Thank you to Shelby's mom, Caleb's Mom, and Di'Yah's mom for being our mystery readers today!! We loved having you all in our classroom :)
