Today students completed their biography project, worked in math centers, read non-fiction books during IDR and discussed characteristics of non-fiction. They also took a mid-year math assessment which I will be sharing with you next week.

I have begun the Fountas and Pinnell individual reading assessments.The children have been working hard and making steady reading progress. I will be sharing this information with you when we meet in March for conferences.

Please keep the Box Tops for Education coming, we are doing an excellent job and there is a contest in February for the class who collects the most!

This morning students completed their NWEA test in math,please be sure to ask your child how they did! I am super proud of their hard work . I will send home more information on Friday in their folder.  Students finished their biography "cube" projects and really enjoying them. Students also completed the Grosse Pointe writing practice where they were given prompts to choose from and had to write a story in the given time.
Tomorrow we will review their math test from Tuesday and discuss their mistakes, their test will also come home Friday.

Friday is Pajama Day- For $1.00 students can wear their PJ's to school. The money will benefit the PTO Auction, there will also be a movie night at school for free Friday night at 6:30. A note was sent home yesterday.

Today students completed their chapter 7 math test, discussed characteristics of non-fiction, learned about penguins, and watched a video clip about Martin Luther King Jr. Tomorrow students will take their NWEA test in Math; please be sure they eat a healthy breakfast.

Today students worked on fractions and shading in a given number, unit 7 math review, discussing Martin Luther King Jr. and went to the Town Hall meeting.

Congratulations to the following students:
Da'jare for earning our Citizen of the Month.
LaVon, Da'jare, Danny, Jordynn, Cameron, and Joey for earning Scholastic Reading Points. We also earned the PBS reward for December and received hot chocolate and animal cookies. Way to go!

Happy Thursday. Today in your son/daughter backpack they have two fliers. One is about box tops and the other one is very important about the safety of all students and crossing the street. Please be sure to read it. In class today students practiced counting change,please practice this skills at home, they also made biography boxes, I have a dream speeches, classified nouns, and math fact powers. Tomorrow homework is due, 12.1 spelling test, we have a Town Hall at 10:20, and No School Monday January 21.

Happy Tuesday. Today students practiced basic addition facts at their level and will continue to do so until they memorize them. In Everyday math they also worked on math boxes.  Students decided on a person to write a biography about and they are excited to lean more about them. In writing, we are beginning a unit on editing and revising writing including using a dictionary. Remember that parents are welcome at the Town Hall meeting on Friday at 10:20. Today was a great day! In math we were working on doubling facts, and practiced being Wubbles.  Students continued to learn, read, and listen to different biographies including biographies on: Jackie Robinson, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and George Washington.  Monday is NWEA testing in reading at 10:00. Please remind your child to get to bed early Sunday and eat a healthy breakfast on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend, and enjoy the warm weather.

Today students continued to set educational goals and subtract two-digit numbers. They also discussed and listened to a biography about Martin Luther King Jr. and interviewed a friend. They will be choosing a person to complete a biography report soon. We also started our Martin Luther King Jr. bulletin board.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed their vacation and spent time having fun! Today we discussed goals and new year resolutions, biographies, counting starting with numbers greater then 200, and capitalizing names and titles. Book exchange is Wednesday and NWEA testing for reading in Monday January 14th at 10:00.
